Boston Arts Consort
Mission Statement: Drawing from the many talented artists and scholars in the Boston area and abroad since 2010, the Boston Arts Consort integrates music, dance, the humanities and culture to create a unique aesthetic and audience experience. The Consort has been featured in the Boston Globe and Voyager Magazine, and has performed in numerous venues throughout the Boston area and the Cape. At the heart of the Consort’s programming is the classical music of Spain and its rich and fascinating culture. We are thrilled to partner with the Janelle Dance Troupe this evening in presenting music by the Spanish/Catalan composer Xavier Montsalvatge with original dance interpretation.
Linda Papatopoli, pianist is active as performer, director, and teacher. She has given performances in Europe, Japan, and Carnegie Recital Hall, as well as keeping a busy concert schedule in the Boston area. She holds degrees from Wilkes University and the Boston Conservatory, with post-graduate work at the Motzarteum in Austria. Her interest in the relationship of the arts and the humanities and her passion for the classical music of Spain led her to found the “Boston Arts Consort”, integrating Spanish music, dance,
literature and culture for a unique and multi-faceted experience. The Consort has been featured in the Boston Globe and Voyager Magazine. She is also active at the Kaji Aso Studio in Boston presenting piano and poetry programs with her actor-husband, Donal O’Sullivan, and performing historical programs of Boston female composers with soprano Jean Danton. Ms. Papatopoli is on the faculty of Boston College where she teaches piano and directs the Boston College Piano Ensemble, and is on the accompanist roster of the Jose Mateo Dance Theatre.
Clara Sandler, mezzo-soprano, a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, feels at home in a wide range of styles, from opera, oratorio and recitals, to zarzuela and tango. Clara Sandler was the featured soloist at the Boston premiere of Górecki’s “Symphony of Sorrowful Songs”, with the Boston Chamber Ensemble. With this orchestra she also performed Wagner’s “Wesendonck Lieder”, her singing praised by The Boston Globe for her “dark and attractive timbre”. She has appeared in opera and oratorio with many Boston area music organizations. An avid researcher of music from Spain and Latin America, Clara has presented recitals in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Uruguay and in her native Buenos Aires. She is a member of the Boston Arts Consort, a performing organization dedicated to the music and culture of
Spain and Latin American. Her CD “Alma Apasionada, Songs from Spain and Argentina”, recorded in Jordan Hall with pianist William Merrill was released by Newport Classic.
Clara Sandler is on the Voice faculty at Boston College Music Department and the New England Conservatory Preparatory and of Continuing Ed. Schools. She is a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique and is a member of Alexander Technique International (ATI). She teaches Alexander Technique classes for Musicians at New England Conservatory SCE and Prep, at Boston College, as well as privately. She has taught Alexander Technique workshops in Boston, New York, Argentina, Uruguay, Germany and Ireland.
Christopher Brown is a performing and recording artist. Chris’s stylistic range includes, Jazz, Blues, Rock, Funk, Reggae, and Ska. Current bands are: The Chris Brown Trio, The Attractors, Fat and Gristle Blues Band, John Frazee Trio, Shane Allessio Band, and Riki Rocksteady All Stars. Chris’s dynamic performances can be seen in NYC, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine. Currently, he can be heard at venues such as: Beehive, Plough and Stars, Stomping Grounds, Drift, Parlour, Fiction Café, Lilypad, and The Midway. His recent album releases are On Pointe, Love Bombs, and Everything and Nothing. He has performed with Dion Knibb, and opened for The Slackers and Lee “Scratch” Perry.
Christopher grew up in Newton, Ma listening to Freddie King, Buddy Guy, and Magic Sam. He graduated from Berklee College of Music where he studied Wes Montgomery, Grant Green, George Benson, and Charlie Parker. Chris now resides in Dedham, Ma.
